Namibia must ensure that new investment agreements with China lead to factories, skilled jobs and local businesses, rather than merely increasing exports of raw minerals, a mining industry leader has warned.
Consolidated Copper Corporation (CCC) Country Manager George Kamati said the success of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s recent State Visit to China should be measured by what is built in Namibia.

“The real test of the visit is not what was signed in Beijing, but what gets built here,” Kamati said.
He said Namibia needs to harness its mineral resources to develop industries that create long-term economic opportunities for citizens.
