NSX overall index rises 2.74%, basic materials post strongest gain

The Namibia Securities Exchange (NSX) Overall Index gained 2.74% during the trading week of 20–24 July 2026, closing at 2,316.51 points, up from 2,254.66 points in the previous session, supported by strong gains in the basic materials sector.

The Namibia Securities Exchange (NSX) Overall Index gained 2.74% during the trading week of 20–24 July 2026, closing at 2,316.51 points, up from 2,254.66 points in the previous session, supported by strong gains in the basic materials sector.

The NSX Local Index edged 0.10% higher to 848.88 points from 848.02 points, extending its gain for the year to 5.09%. The index also reached a new 2026 high of 848.88 points, compared with its year low of 807.70 points.

The basic materials Index recorded the strongest performance among the major sectors, climbing 10.26% to 835.15 points. The sector has advanced 16.73% since December 2025, making it the best-performing sector year-to-date.

The telecommunications Index also ended the week in positive territory, rising 0.27% to 306.94 points, while the Utilities Index remained unchanged at 1,084.09 points.

However, several sectors closed lower during the week. The consumer discretionary Index posted the largest decline, falling 5.87% to 2,382.67 points, leaving the sector down 11.19% since the end of 2025.
