As South Africa grapples with sluggish economic growth, high unemployment and increasing competition from imported vehicles, Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSAf) is doubling down on local manufacturing, investing billions of rand into industrialisation while positioning the country as a strategic export hub for the African continent.

The Japanese automaker has invested approximately R1.9 billion in its South African operations over the past five years, a commitment that has helped sustain a workforce of 1 200 employees, including a notable youth contingent, with 25% of staff under the age of 35.
The investment comes amid mounting pressure on South Africa’s manufacturing sector, which policymakers increasingly view as critical to job creation and economic recovery. According to Isuzu South Africa’s Senior Manager for Strategic Communications, Iviwe Poti, localisation remains central to the company’s long-term growth strategy.
