NICOSIA – UN chief Antonio Guterres yesterday said he would convene new talks on bringing an end to the half-century-old Cyprus conflict, inviting leaders on the divided island and its three guarantor powers. However, he gave no date for the meeting, saying it was contingent on making progress in confidence-building measures.
Guterres, who leaves office at the end of the year, was on the first visit to the Mediterranean island by a UN secretary-general since 2010.
