The Nust Staff Sports Association (NSSSA) made history by emerging as the inaugural overall champions of the Inter-University Staff Sports Games over the weekend.
Nust produced a dominant display across several sporting codes, collecting gold medals in darts, soccer and mixed volleyball, while also securing silver medals in both the men’s and women’s relay events and a bronze in tug of war.
Strong performances across disciplines propelled Nust to the top of the overall standings, ahead of Unam Central Campuses in second place and Unam Northern Campuses in third.
Although netball proved a challenging contest, the Nust contingent maintained its competitive spirit and determination throughout the games, and the team’s overall performance ultimately secured the historic title.
Nust sports coordinator for staff sport, Dimbulukeni Nauyoma, attributed the success to the commitment and collective effort of the athletes.
“Our exceptional athletes demonstrated hard work, teamwork, and excellence across multiple disciplines, securing top honours and reinforcing Nust’s commitment to sporting excellence,” Nauyoma said.
Nust’s gold-medal haul included victories in darts, soccer and mixed volleyball. In darts, Nust finished ahead of Unam Central Campuses and IUM, while in soccer the team claimed first place ahead of Triumphant College and Unam Central Campuses.
Nust also won mixed volleyball, with Unam Central Campuses and Unam Northern Campuses completing the podium.
The staff side further demonstrated its versatility on the track, taking silver in both the women’s and men’s relay events. In tug of war, Nust settled for bronze behind Unam Central and Unam Northern Campuses.
The inaugural championship provides a strong foundation for future inter-university staff sporting competitions, with Nust’s success highlighting the depth of sporting talent and the value of teamwork among its employees.
