Namibian learner Tironenn Amutenya Kadhikwa, aged 14, has been selected to join a rare scientific expedition to the North Pole aboard a Russian nuclear-powered icebreaker, following his win in an international competition that attracted nearly 5 000 learners from 22 countries.
Kadhikwa is among a group of young people taking part in the 2026 Icebreaker of Knowledge expedition, organised by Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom.
The expedition departed from the Russian city of Murmansk aboard the nuclear-powered icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy. During the 10-day journey, the learners will travel to the North Pole and Franz Josef Land, where they will study Arctic research, nuclear technology and scientific innovation.
