Vice President Lucia Witbooi on Monday called on Namibia to use green hydrogen as a springboard to build its own industrial economy.
She said the country must invest heavily in science, research, and innovation rather than limiting itself to exporting raw materials. She made the remarks at the official launch of the REALTEST Green Hydrogen Research Project at the University of Namibia (UNAM) main campus in Windhoek.
Addressing government officials, researchers, students and representatives of Germany and other partners, Witbooi said the research project marks a major step in Namibia’s drive to become a competitive industrial nation.
She said the country is well positioned to become one of the world’s leading producers of green hydrogen because of its abundant renewable energy resources but stressed that this alone will not transform the economy.
