KIFI safeguards Namibia’s inland fisheries through research and conservation

THE Kamutjonga Inland Fisheries Institute (KIFI) is playing a crucial role in protecting Namibia’s freshwater resources through scientific research, fish population monitoring, aquaculture development and environmental education aimed at ensuring sustainable benefits for future generations.

Located on the Kavango River in the Kavango East Region, KIFI serves as Namibia’s leading freshwater research and aquaculture development facility, supporting efforts to understand and sustainably manage inland fisheries.

Chief Fisheries Biologist Dr Francois Jacobs said the institute was established as part of the government’s long-term development vision to create a world-class research facility that would benefit Namibia and the wider SADC region.
