Editorial – RIP Romian Tsuses: One death too many

“The greatness of a civilisation can be judged by how it treats its weakest members” is a phrase often attributed to Mahatma Gandhi. The death of Romian Tsuses during the early hours of Wednesday after she had been diagnosed with malnutrition is a reminder that Namibia failed the young Tsuses.

At five, Tsuses certainly had her whole life ahead of her and, like any other child, deserved a shot at life, supported by a functioning society that places its most vulnerable at the centre.

Her family, according to a report, waited nearly 10 hours for help to remove her body.

As if this were not enough for the grieving mother of seven, she was forced to transport her body in a trolley when the police took too long to arrive.
