Windhoek divorces RedForce but political interference could backfire

After years at loggerheads with certain quarters, the City of Windhoek has ended its contract with RedForce Debt Management, returning the debt-collecting function internally.

The contract ended on Friday, the City announced.

“At this stage, no new external debt collection service provider has been appointed. In the interim, the City will continue with debt collection activities through its internal resources while the council considers the way forward,” reads the statement. It continued, “With the conclusion of the external debt collection arrangement, the City will resume the administration of accounts handed over to RedForce.

Accordingly, interest on overdue accounts will be charged at the applicable rate of 20% per annum, together with the prescribed disconnection fees.”

Effective today, all customers with accounts handed over to RedForce who wish to negotiate payment arrangements are required to engage the City’s Debt and Risk Management Division.
