“Condenadme, no importa, la historia me absolverá” – “Condemn me, it does not matter, history will absolve me” – Fidel Castro declared on 16 October 1953 in his famous four-hour speech.
In essence, Castro posited then that, no matter the condemnation he received, history would absolve him.
Castro’s words echoed last week when Prime Minister (PM) Elijah Ngurare’s arrived in Havana as the two nations continue deepening their fraternal bond.
For Ngurare, the two countries must now move beyond their historic political solidarity towards economic independence and development.
Ngurare made the call during his official visit to Cuba, where he is engaging Cuban political leaders, youth and other stakeholders on strengthening bilateral relations.
“Fidel is Fidel,” Ngurare said.
