Growing up in a community where football was the main sporting outlet for marginalised citizens, Israel Kunondjo Tjizake broke with that entrenched tradition. The towering boy from the ‘Tura’ location chose a different pastime, one similar to football but played with sticks rather than feet and other body parts.
A well-grounded fellow of decent upbringing, many only came to know ‘Issy’ as the emerging statistician in the corporate space, but in real life, the easy-going socialite was a hard-to-beat hockey goalkeeper, guarding the net for his motherland at the senior level.
