Namibia has been ranked the second-best country in the world and the best in Africa for attracting new foreign investment, according to the Greenfield Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Performance Index 2026.
The report, which assessed 98 countries, shows that Namibia continues to attract more investment projects than many larger economies when measured against the size of its economy.

Greenfield foreign direct investment occurs when a foreign company builds a new business, factory, or project in another country rather than buying an existing one.
In a statement issued by The Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB)’s Competitiveness and Branding Acting Executive, Catherine Shipushu, said the ranking reflects growing confidence in Namibia as a place to invest.
“This recognition highlights the government’s commitment to creating an environment where investors can confidently establish and grow their businesses while contributing to Namibia’s long-term economic development,” she said. Namibia scored 7.74 on the index, behind only the United Arab Emirates, which scored 19.21. Rwanda ranked third with 6.99, while Qatar came fourth with 5.44.
