What started as a simple livestock loading point more than a decade ago has grown into one of the north’s busiest cattle markets, where nearly N$10 million was made from the sales of livestock from communal farmers, while creating business opportunities that extend far beyond livestock sales.
Of that amount, more than N$8.9 million has gone directly into the pockets of farmers.

The upgraded auction kraal in Okongo, in the Ohangwena region, has become a lifeline for farmers from Ohangwena, Kavango West, Oshana, Omusati and Oshikoto regions.
It has given them easier access to buyers and fairer prices for their cattle.
The impact of the facility was highlighted during its official inauguration this week,
when environment minister Indileni Daniel and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) resident representative Amanda Serumaga handed over the upgraded auction kraal and machinery worth about N$4 million to the kraal as well as the Omauni Wood Carpentry Enterprise in the region.
