MICT debates to shape leaders

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) has launched a national debate championship aimed at turning young Namibians into future leaders capable of influencing public policy and providing solutions to the country’s social challenges.

Opening the inaugural MICT Open Debate Championship at the University of Namibia’s (Unam) main campus on Friday, deputy MICT minister Wenzel Kavaka said the initiative is more than an academic competition, describing it as an investment in Namibia’s future leadership.

Kavaka said the championship is designed to give students a platform to debate pressing national issues, including cybersecurity, the ethical use of social media, gender-based violence and national pride, while strengthening their research, analytical thinking and public speaking skills.

“This championship will be more than a competition; it is an investment in Namibia’s future leaders,” Kavaka said.
