The ||Kharas Police Regional Commander, Commissioner Marius Katamila, said that rising water levels in the Fish River Canyon resulted in many exit points being blocked, leaving 96 tourists stuck in the canyon.

Katamila said that the Namibian Police Force, yesterday, 22 June 2026, conducted an operation from 10:00 to about 18:00 hours to rescue the tourists.

The commissioner said that the Namibian Police Force used one of its helicopters to airlift a total of 68 hikers from different points in the Fish River Canyon, adding that most tourists were booked in at the Ai-Ais Resort of the Namibia Wildlife Resorts.
