NEW UNAIDS data has placed Namibia among only 11 countries worldwide to achieve the global 95-95-95 HIV targets, while warning that funding cuts, widening inequalities and threats to human rights could derail efforts to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
The recognition comes in the UNAIDS Global AIDS Update, launched during the 26th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2026) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the Southern African Development Community (SADC) reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and country-led HIV responses.
According to the report, Namibia exceeded the global targets in 2025, with 97% of people living with HIV knowing their status, 98% of those diagnosed receiving antiretroviral treatment, and 98% of those on treatment achieving viral suppression.
