City of Windhoek councillor Ivan Skrywer has been elected chairperson of the newly merged council advisory committee on formalisation of informal settlements, land delivery, affordable housing and integration of peri-urban areas.
Skrywer, who represents the Landless People’s Movement, will serve as chairperson until 2030.
He previously chaired the committee responsible for the formalisation of informal settlements and integration of the Groot Aub settlement.

He confirmed this to The Namibian on Tuesday.
“The two committees have now been merged, with the land delivery and affordable housing committee incorporated into the formalisation committee to streamline efforts, resources and avoid duplication,” Skrywer said.
He said the committee is tasked with advising the council on the formalisation of informal settlements and peri-urban areas, including Groot Aub, as well as ways to accelerate the process.
It will also engage stakeholders to advise the council on housing matters within Windhoek and the broader Khomas region.
Skrywer will be deputised by Affirmative Repositioning councillor Maitjituavi Kavetu.
