The ability of Namibian businesses to compete in global markets will increasingly depend on how safely, sustainably and responsibly they operate, the Namibia Standards Institution (NSI) said.
The institution made the remarks as it launched two new certification schemes on Tuesday in Windhoek.

The launch of the ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification schemes is expected to help local companies demonstrate compliance with international standards while improving workplace safety and environmental practices.
NSI chief executive officer Eino Mvula said the introduction of the schemes comes at a critical time as Namibia pursues economic growth, industrialisation, value addition and green investment under the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6).
Mvula said the country’s development ambitions cannot be achieved through investment alone, but require businesses and institutions to operate efficiently, responsibly and according to internationally accepted practices.
