Court orders compensation in Amushelelo, Nauyoma arrest case

UPDATE: High Court judge Natasha Bassingthwaighte has ordered that the Ministry of Home Affairs, Safety and Security compensate social activists Michael Amushelelo and Dimbulukeni Nauyoma for damages arising from the alleged unlawful arrest following a protest on youth unemployment on 21 March 2023. The court ordered that Amushelelo be compensated N$300,000, while Nauyoma will be paid N$80,000.00. The State, at the time of the arrest, alleged that the duo had been arrested for holding a protest without the permission of the Inspector General and that they had violated a court order which allegedly interdicted the accused in the matter from proceeding with the protest.
