Agri-tourism model proposed for resettlement farms

The only indigenous tourism operator in the Omaheke region, Peter-Hein Kazapua, has urged the government to implement a new resettlement model under which livestock and crop production can be integrated with tourism.

This would ensure that local communities benefit directly from tourism, he says.

“This is a new concept that can help the government put idle resettlement farms to productive use,” Kazapua says, adding that the government should start a pilot project on the model.

“We are calling for an agri-tourism model that is inclusive of livestock, crop and wildlife farming, accommodation like guest farms, and lodges.”
