Salem celebrates bumper winter harvest

Various farmers at the Salem Green Scheme Project in Kavango East have hailed their recent winter harvest while stressing the need for more formal markets to sell their produce.

In an interview, Anna-Marie Mwambu, a small-scale horticultural farmer, said they had made good progress this season, producing a sufficient supply of carrots, cabbages and onions.

She said favourable weather conditions since the end of the rainy season had contributed significantly to the good harvest.

Mwambu said temperatures had remained moderate enough to protect the crops from extreme cold, while sufficient water had also helped sustain the plants throughout the growing period.
