Khomasdal-based Namibia Rugby Union outfit Western Suburbs continued their difficult season with a humiliating 104-28 defeat to Wanderers in Saturday’s Premier League action.

The result of the match played at the Wanderers Sports Ground in Pionierspark left Suburbs rooted to the bottom of the nine-team Premier League, still searching for their first victory of the season after 11 matches.

Wanderers, meanwhile, went into the encounter at the top of the standings following their victory over Unam last weekend.

The home side took control from the outset and dominated the opening exchanges. Wanderers raced to a commanding 47-14 lead at half-time before piling on the points in the second half.

Wanderers crossed the white line for 15 tries, with Nandivatu Karuuombe and Jorick Muir each scoring a hat-trick. Kistings Minyoi, JP Campbell and Kyle Nel added two tries apiece, while Jonathan Hannekom, Adriaan Booysen, Ryan Coetzee and Edward Drotsky each scored once.

Johny Mwenyo contributed a further 24 points with the boot, converting 12 of Wanderers’ 15 tries.

For Suburbs, Morgan Esterhuizen and Wyatt Brooks scored one try each, while Nzola-Menza Nkunku crossed the line twice. Brooks converted all four tries.

The victory extended Wanderers’ lead at the top of the log to nine points. They now have 63 points, while second-placed Montego United, who have a game in hand, are on 54 points after 11 matches.

Suburbs remain bottom of the table with just three points from 11 games.

Elsewhere, UNAM bounced back from last week’s defeat to Wanderers with a 42-24 victory over Rehoboth at the UNAM Stadium, keeping their hopes of a top four finish and a place in the semi-finals alive.

UNAM moved to 37 points from 11 matches, while Rehoboth, despite a spirited second-half performance, remain sixth on the log with 22 points.

In other fixtures played in Walvis Bay and Grootfontein on Saturday, Kudus outclassed Reho Falcons 71-17 to move within a point of third place. Kudus are now on 50 points.

Third-placed Grootfontein endured a second successive disappointing weekend, following last week’s defeat to Kudus with a 51-17 loss to Montego United. They remain third on 51 points.

Reho Falcons are eighth in the standings on 17 points, level with Dolphins, who had the weekend off.
