Namibian FIFA-accredited assistant referee Eveline Augustinus has earned a major regional appointment after being selected to undergo training for the CAF Women’s Champions League Cosafa qualifiers in Botswana.
Lungameni is the only Namibian referee among 18 match officials selected from across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region for the tournament, which kicks off in Gaborone this week.
The CAF Women’s Champions League qualifier Botswana 2026 will be held from 20 to 29 August, with eight of the region’s top women’s clubs competing for the coveted regional title and a place in the continental finals.

For Lungameni, the appointment recognises her progress as an international match official and offers another opportunity to gain valuable experience at CAF level.
“It’s a great opportunity to be called up. It shows that I am doing something right,” Lungameni said.
She explained that match officials are generally required to report ahead of the competition and to undergo mandatory fitness testing before being cleared to officiate.
“The organisers usually invite us a week in advance to attend and take a fitness test. If you pass, you stay. We took the fitness test on Saturday, and the course started on Sunday,” she said.
The appointment comes as Lungameni continues to establish herself among the region’s leading female match officials. As the sole Namibian selected for the competition, she is also in a position to represent the country on one of the region’s biggest women’s football stages.
The Botswana qualifier will feature eight clubs, divided into two groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, with the eventual winner securing Cosafa’s sole berth at the CAF Women’s Champions League continental finals.
The tournament brings together a strong mix of established clubs, former champions, recent finalists and debutants, setting the stage for a competitive battle for regional supremacy.
