The use of social media among young people in Namibia has raised concerns over harmful content, including tribal remarks and negative gender-based commentary. Youth activist Rivaldo Kavanga (24) is calling for training on the responsible and effective use of social media.

He was recently selected among 50 young people representing 31 African countries for the Youth Continental Dialogue in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. “We built capacity in peacebuilding, digital integrity, and countering harmful narratives, while strengthening our skills in fact-checking, conflict-sensitive communication, and the development of youth-led narratives grounded in human rights. I look forward to applying these skills in my professional work with the NBC as well as with Active Youth Organisation (AYO) Namibia,” he said.
