The Swapo Party Women’s Council’s 9th congress, scheduled for December in Katima Mulilo, will set the tone ahead of the ruling party’s intraparty congress next year, where pretenders will be separated from contenders.
This analysis could be drawn from Swapo Party Women’s Council (SPWC) member and former Cabinet minister Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana when addressing a press conference in the capital yesterday.

The veteran politician said the SPWC congress has always taken place before the party’s national congress and plays a crucial role in shaping the organisation’s future.
“The Swapo Party Women’s Council always holds its congress a year before the party congress, with all other congresses following thereafter. This means the Women’s Council congress sets the tone. It is up to us to examine how we do things and ensure we do them properly,” Ithana said.
She said the preparations for the congress must be guided by the party’s constitution, the women’s council constitution and all established rules.
