The Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management (Nipam) has defended the criteria used to select winners of the 2026 Public Sector Awards (PSA), following public discussions and criticism on social media after the awards ceremony last week.
The second edition of the Public Sector Awards was held on 29 July 2026, with Nipam saying the awards are intended to recognise public institutions that demonstrate a strong commitment to developing their human resources through continuous learning and professional development.
In a media release issued last week, Nipam said the awards are part of its mandate under the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management Act, 2010 (Act No. 10 of 2010).
The institution said the awards specifically recognise public institutions that invest in the training and development of their employees, arguing that a skilled and capable workforce is essential to improving public service delivery.
