OPUWO – Wavena Fishing and Processing Limited on Friday officially unveiled four newly constructed flushable toilets to Okarukoro Primary School in the Epupa Constituency, Kunene region, ending a 28-year period during which learners and teachers relied on the bush for sanitation.
The toilets, valued at N$56 000, were funded and constructed by Wavena Fishing as part of its corporate social responsibility for the school which has 135 learners from pre-primary to Grade 3, and five teachers. Speaking at the handover ceremony, Wavena Fishing board member Patricia Hausiku said poor sanitation at schools can compromise learners’ health and academic performance, making it important for government and the private sector to work together to address developmental needs.
