State wants life sentence for wife killer

Advocate Seredine Jacobs has asked the court to sentence a former teacher, convicted of murdering his wife by stabbing her at least 12 times with a kitchen knife in Okuryangava several years ago, to a term of life imprisonment.

According to the State lawyer, Patrick Geingob’s (46) personal circumstances placed before the court simply do not measure up to the gravity of the offence and the interests of society.

Geingob faces charges including murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and common assault in relation to the death of his wife, Merentha Geingos, on 14 April 2026 in Okuryangava. The advocate submitted, during closing arguments in presentencing proceedings this week, that the only appropriate sentence for the accused would be a lengthy period of imprisonment.

She added that the seriousness of a crime of murder perpetrated in a domestic domain cannot be stressed enough. The court should send a clear and unequivocal message that crimes involving domestic violence would not be tolerated and that sentences would be appropriately severe, she added. Jacobs submitted that we live in an orderly society governed by moral values, and everyone is obliged to uphold said values and respect each other.
