National Assembly speaker Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila has called on media organisations to report fairly on women in leadership positions. She says coverage often focuses on their controversy and personal conduct instead of their work and achievements. Kuugongelwa-Amadhila says this type of reporting is unbalanced, can affect how the public sees women leaders and discourages women from partaking in public matters.

She made the remarks at the 35th anniversary celebrations of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation in Windhoek on Friday. “The effect of this imbalance is not neutral. It erodes public confidence in women leaders, and it erodes the confidence of those women themselves,” she said.
