AIMING to become a potential global green hydrogen hub, Namibia is leveraging its vast renewable energy potential while a new report warns that a shortage of specialised skills could slow the development of the emerging industry.
The Energy Sector Skills Strategy Report – Namibia, launched by the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), identifies green hydrogen as a major opportunity to accelerate industrialisation, diversify the economy, create jobs and support global decarbonisation efforts.
According to the report, Namibia’s exceptional solar and wind resources provide a strong foundation for a green hydrogen economy. The country receives more than 3 000 hours of sunshine annually, while coastal areas, particularly around Lüderitz, offer favourable wind conditions for large-scale renewable energy projects.
