Meatco accuses former fraud accused CEO Liebenberg of delay tactics in civil lawsuit

THE Meat Corporation of Namibia (Meatco) has accused its former Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Patrick Liebenberg, of delaying a civil lawsuit in which it is demanding that Liebenberg pay back an amount of N$7.5 million, which it claims Liebenberg misappropriated via fictitious cattle sales and other dubious transactions.

In an answering affidavit, Albertus Aochamub opposed an irregular exception application in which Liebenberg claims that the particulars of claim documents filed against him by Meatco are defective and vague and stand to be thrown out. The lawyer representing Meatco, Norman Tjombe, has, however, argued that this irregular exception application was filed late and, as such, Meatco would oppose the application.

In June 2026, Meatco increased its monetary claims against Liebenberg from N$6.1 million to N$7.5 million after alleging that Liebenberg misappropriated company funds between 2024 and 2025 through various livestock procurement transactions. He is also accused of fraud, forgery and sabotage linked to 900 missing cattle at the parastatal through Linden Beef Feedlot.
