The Green Hydrogen Youth Ambassadors Programme has entered a new phase, with 30 young people from all 14 regions of Namibia developing community awareness projects to help the public understand green hydrogen and the opportunities it offers.

The programme is an initiative by Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, supported by GIZ through the Energy Partnership and in collaboration with the Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme.
Its main aim is to position young people as multipliers of change in Namibia’s transition towards a green energy economy.
The Youth Ambassadors are working in regional teams to develop proposals for innovative projects that will educate and engage communities while addressing local needs and opportunities.
Selected projects will later be implemented in communities across the country.
Martin Wilkinson, senior economic development manager for training and development at Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, said the first phase gives young people the chance to turn their proposals into reality.
“The proposal development phase allows our Youth Ambassadors to think creatively about how they can engage their communities and make green hydrogen more accessible. We look forward to seeing innovative ideas that will help build awareness and encourage meaningful conversations across Namibia,” he said. Asellah David of GIZ said that involving young people in developing projects for their own communities would encourage greater participation and local ownership of the green hydrogen transition.
“By encouraging Youth Ambassadors to design projects for their own communities, we are supporting youth-led solutions that promote awareness, participation and local ownership of Namibia’s green hydrogen journey,” she added.
She said she is excited to see the ideas come to life and make a meaningful impact in communities across Namibia.
Emmanuela Jossob, one of the Youth Ambassadors, said the initiative offers an opportunity to help communities understand how they can benefit from the emerging green hydrogen sector.
“The value of this undertaking lies in creating platforms for communities to understand green hydrogen and the opportunities it may bring.
As Youth Ambassadors, we hope to help people understand where they can fit into the emerging value chain, ask questions and identify opportunities to participate,” she said.
She added that the programme could help make green hydrogen more accessible to communities and encourage them to take an active role in the sector.
