Sport at the University of Namibia (Unam) is making progress, with increased student participation and more opportunities for athletes to compete, but challenges around facilities, equipment, funding and communication continue to hamper further development.
This is according to Ryan Gomachab, Unam Student Representative Council (SRC) representative for the 2025 academic year, which ran into 2026.
Gomachab said one of the biggest successes during his tenure has been the increased involvement of students in sporting activities and the opportunities created for them to compete and represent the university.
He said witnessing Unam FC being crowned NFA Cup champions, as well as the revival of the Unam Hockey Club after a difficult period, were among the highlights that demonstrated the potential of sport at the institution.
