Eight teams progressed to the quarterfinals of the women’s NFA Cup competition after completion of the Round of 16 matches over the weekend. Most of the favourites won their round of 16 matches, but there was one slight upset as Nust Babes beat Mighty Angels 4-2. Nust Babes were relegated from the FNB Women Super League after finishing second last on the log, while Mighty Angels just managed to escape the relegation axe after finishing one place above them.

With their victory, Nust Babes have now moved into the last eight where they will take on Julinho Athletic Ladies. Mighty Gunners Ladies, who agonisingly missed out on winning the league title last weekend, struck back with a vengeance to beat VPower Angels 7-0 on Saturday. Gunners started off in a hurry with Fiona Vliete scoring after only one minute, while further goals by Leena Alweendo and Vliete’s second gave them a comfortable 3-0 lead by half time.
