Funding cripples education

Inadequate funding, ageing education infrastructure, teacher shortages and youth unemployment are some of the biggest challenges threatening the successful implementation of the education ministry’s strategic plan and NDP6.

This was presented to the National Council Standing Committee during a joint stakeholder engagement with government offices, ministries and agencies (OMAs) on Tuesday.

During the presentation, ministry officials warned that constrained public finances, coupled with growing demand for education ministry programmes, could delay projects, reduce service delivery and hinder the achievement of strategic targets.
