The government has suspended the implementation of the revised classification of duty stations used to determine remoteness allowances for public servants.

The suspension, announced by the Office of the Prime Minister on Thursday, will take effect from 1 July 2026 and remain in place until further notice.
The decision follows concerns raised by public servants, employee representatives, community leaders, members of Parliament and the public regarding the impact of the new classification system.
Ngurare directed that the revised categorisation and all related changes to remoteness allowances be put on hold while the government conducts further consultations and reviews the matter.
