OKAKARARA – The government’s investment in the Dairy Value Chain Development Scheme is improving the livelihoods of emerging farmers in the Otjozondjupa region by increasing milk production, enhancing product value, generating employment, and boosting household incomes.

The scheme is part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform’s wider initiatives to enhance agricultural value chains, boost food and nutrition security, and support sustainable rural development.

Its impact was highlighted during the Otjozondjupa State of the Region Address (SORA) 2026, which revealed that 31 farmers benefited from livestock, dairy equipment and value-addition infrastructure worth approximately N$1.5 million under the programme.

According to Clarence Tjiho, Chief Agricultural Officer at the Directorate of Agricultural Production, Extension and Engineering Services (DAPEES), the Dairy Value Chain Development Scheme goes beyond providing livestock and equipment.

He said it equips beneficiaries with the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to run sustainable dairy enterprises.
