Okahandja hit by powerful hailstorm

Staff Reporter OKAHANDJA and surrounding areas in the Otjozondjupa Region were battered by heavy rainfall and an intense hailstorm on Thursday, blanketing significant parts of the town in hail. This rare occurrence was captured and shared on social media, with images and videos showing thick layers of hail covering surfaces from rooftops to the ground. The hailstorm was accompanied by heavy rainfall, which also left parts of the town flooded, transforming roads into rivers. Photos and videos: contributed. The incident was not isolated; areas near Koës in the //Kharas Region and Gobabis in the Omaheke Region also experienced hailstorms on the same day. Members of the public are urged to remain cautious during extreme weather conditions. Motorists, particularly those travelling in and around Okahandja, are advised to drive carefully, as slippery roads, reduced visibility, and possible flooding significantly increase the risk of accidents.
