Namibia sells more food than it buys in June

Namibia recorded a N$743-million food trade surplus in June despite its overall trade deficit widening to a record N$5.5 billion.

This is according to the latest international merchandise trade statistics bulletin of the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA).

NSA statistician general and chief executive Alex Shimuafeni says this has resulted in the country earning a food trade surplus of N$743 million – despite the country’s overall trade deficit widening to N$5.5 billion.

Shimuafeni says exported goods were worth N$12.9 billion during the month, while imports reached a record N$18.3 billion.

This left the country with a trade deficit of N$5.5 billion, up from N$3.2 billion in May.
