Madison Bergh (17) of Marlins Swimming Club was the standout performer at the NASFED/Bank Windhoek Short Course Gala 4 after setting two new records during the three-day competition last weekend.
The gala, held from 13 to 15 August in the Khomas, Erongo and //Karas regions brought together swimmers from across junior, youth, senior and Masters categories.
Bergh first set a new Girls 17–18 and open record in the 400m freestyle after clocking 4:29.11, before producing another record-breaking performance in the 800m freestyle, finishing in 9:19.79 to establish a new Girls 17–18 mark.

Bergh said she was pleased with her progress, particularly with the 800m freestyle record, as she prepares for the Junior World Open Water Swimming Championships in Argentina in two weeks.
“I’m very happy. I’m on the path I want to be,” she said. “I’m really excited and optimistic about my path and how I’m building muscle and improving my swims throughout the year,” she said.
Bergh credited her coach for the programme, her gym instructor for helping her build strength, as well as her teammates and family for their continued support.
Beyond Bergh’s records, the gala provided an important platform for swimmers to test their progress, with numerous athletes recording personal bests across the different age groups.
The competition also offered valuable racing experience for swimmers preparing for upcoming events and seeking qualifying standards.
The next major event on the calendar is the Short Course NASFED/Bank Windhoek Nationals, scheduled for 23 to 27 September, where swimmers will have another opportunity to test themselves against the country’s best.
