The Walvis Bay and Namibian athletics community is mourning the loss of one of its most respected long-distance runners, Likizeni Pendukeni “Bob” Tangeni, affectionately known as “Uncle Bob”, who passed away on 26 July 2026.

A household name on Namibia’s road-running circuit, Tangeni dedicated decades of his life to the sport, earning admiration not only for his achievements but also for his humility, resilience and unwavering commitment to athletics.
His passing marks the end of an era for Namibian distance running. Born and raised in Kuisebmond, Walvis Bay, Tangeni rose from humble beginnings to become one of the country’s most accomplished masters athletes.
