Namibian boxing star Fillipus ‘Energy’ Nghitumbwa says he is fully prepared for war when he takes on Mexico’s Leonardo Carrillo in the main bout of the “Tribute to His Excellency Dr Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma” boxing event set for tomorrow at the Windhoek Showgrounds. The highly anticipated showdown will see Nghitumbwa defend his pride against Carrillo in a 12-round WBO Global Super Bantamweight title fight expected to headline an action-packed night of professional boxing. Speaking ahead of the bout, the confident Namibian pugilist said preparations have gone according to plan and that he is eager to put on a memorable performance for local fans. “I have prepared well. The body is ready and I urge Namibians to come out in numbers,” said Nghitumbwa. The main event is expected to draw strong local support as boxing fans gather to honour the legacy of Namibia’s Founding President, Sam Nujoma, through sport. Another major attraction on the card will be the WBO Africa Featherweight title clash between Namibia’s hard-hitting boxer Mateus Heita, popularly known as “The Beast”, and South African challenger Zolisa Batyi. Heita heads into the 12-round contest carrying an impressive professional record of 14 wins from 15 fights and will look to continue his rise on the continental stage against the experienced Batyi. The event will also feature several top Namibian fighters, including Harry Simon Jr, who faces Zimbabwe’s Freeman Mabongwe in an international welterweight contest, as well as rising local talents competing throughout the evening. Organisers have promised an entertaining night filled with high-level boxing action as Namibia’s finest fighters’ step into the ring in tribute to the late liberation icon. -lmupetami@nepc.com.na The post Nghitumbwa ready to rumble in Nujoma tribute boxing bonanza appeared first on New Era .
