Namibia’s trade deficit widened sharply in June 2026 after imports reached a record N$18.3 billion, driven by higher purchases of fuel, mining products and commercial vehicles.
The latest figures released by the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) show the country exported goods worth N$12.9 billion during the month, leaving a trade deficit of N$5.5 billion. This is a sharp deterioration from the N$3.2 billion deficit recorded in May and a major turnaround from the N$669 million trade surplus recorded in June last year.
The report shows imports increased by 14.9% from May and were 62.1% higher than in June 2025, marking the highest monthly import bill recorded over the past year.
“Although exports increased by 1.2% from the previous month and 7.6% compared to June 2025, the growth was not enough to offset the surge in imports,” NSA said.
