EU observers flag delays in Zambia election

Zambia’s general elections were largely well organised and transparent during polling on Thursday, but the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) has identified delays, overcrowding and continued barriers to participate, particularly for women and persons with disabilities.

In its preliminary statement released Saturday, the mission says its observers monitored the opening of 39 polling stations, voting at 419 stations, counting at 38 stations, and tabulation processes at 47 centres.
The EU mission notes that polling was conducted in a generally calm and orderly environment, with voting procedures implemented effectively and essential election materials available at most polling stations.
