An elderly couple, convicted of fraud and theft in connection with nearly N$10 million stolen from a bus company, Ekonolux, to bankroll an extravagant lifestyle, was sentenced to lengthy prison terms.

Amanda Elizabeth Jantjies, her husband Barnard Christopher Jantjies and a close corporation, Bareli Building Services, were sentenced on Monday in the Windhoek High Court by Judge Eileen Rakow.
Amanda was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment on 873 fraud charges, of which four years were suspended for a period of five years.
Barnard was sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment on 876 counts of theft, of which five years were suspended for five years. The two were also sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment each for 871 counts of money laundering.
