The Namibia National Students’ Organisation (Nanso) and the Namibia National Teachers’ Union (Nantu) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening their relationship, which they described as being built over years of solidarity, cooperation and a shared commitment to education and the Namibian child.
The MoU provides a strengthened framework for both organisations to collaborate on education advocacy, research, joint campaigns, mentorship, resource sharing and matters affecting students, learners and educators.
Nanso secretary general Secilia Ambunda, who signed the agreement on behalf of the organisation, reaffirmed the longstanding relationship between the two organisations and their commitment to carrying the partnership forward.

“This MOU is a renewal of a historic alliance and serves as both a reminder and a declaration that the pursuit of quality, accessible and transformative education will always be strongest when students and teachers move as one,” Ambunda said.
The agreement is built around three strategic pillars aimed at creating a more coordinated approach to addressing challenges within the education sector.
The first pillar focuses on grassroots and membership mobilisation. Under this pillar, the organisations aim for every Nanso institution or branch to have a Nantu-affiliated educator serving as a staff liaison.
It also includes transitional membership, through which graduating educators will be identified and guided into Nantu’s junior leadership structures, supported by mentorship.
The second pillar is resource mobilisation, focusing on fundraising and infrastructure sharing. The two organisations will explore opportunities to share facilities, offices and other resources where possible, while jointly mobilising support for their programmes.
The third pillar focuses on advocacy and crisis management. It includes the establishment of a joint research unit and a National Education Crisis Committee (NECC) to ensure that emerging challenges are addressed promptly and effectively.
Through the partnership, Nanso and Nantu also seek to strengthen their advocacy efforts by sharing data and information from the ground and presenting a more unified voice on issues affecting education.
The organisations said the MoU represents a commitment to ensuring that the interests of learners, students and educators remain central to discussions on the future of education in Namibia.
