Oranjemund council accused of Yacht Club utility cut-off

The Oranjemund Town Council has been stopped from continuing with the disconnection of electricity and water services at the Yacht Club property after the High Court granted an interim order in favour of Turnstile Investments (Pty) Ltd.

The company approached the High Court, accusing the council of unlawfully cutting off essential municipal services despite the investor allegedly complying with the municipality’s payment demands linked to the purchase of the property.

Justice Michael Mtambo on Monday ordered that the council’s decision, taken in March 2026 to disconnect the services at Portion 5 of Farm Oranjemund Townlands, commonly known as the Yacht Club, be stayed pending the finalisation of the matter.

The court further issued a Rule Nisi calling on the Oranjemund Town Council and its acting chief executive officer to explain why they should not be ordered to immediately restore electricity and water services to the property.
