Poverty, child-headed homes blamed

NKURENKURU – First Gentleman Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah has expressed concern over the high number of boys dropping out of school in Kavango West.

He said many young men are failing to take advantage of the educational opportunities available to them.

Ndaitwah said Namibia has invested significantly in expanding access to education, including opportunities for learners to continue their studies at universities and vocational institutions subsidised by the government. However, he said these opportunities are being wasted when boys leave school before completing their education.

“Why don’t you make use of that chance? Our children, this country is liberated. It is free and independent, and these people [war veterans] made it happen. So, what are you doing to give back? You need to do something to repay their sacrifices, and the best way to do that is by studying hard and turning your dreams into reality. That is the greatest payment you can make. They would want to look at our children and say, ‘Our children are doing exceptionally well at your level’,” he said.
