There are bakkies that quietly get the job done, and then there are bakkies that make a statement long before the engine is started. LDV’s flagship, the Terron 9, falls squarely into the latter category and with its arrival the established order in the premium bakkie market has a formidable new challenger.

After spending time behind on the road, it quickly became clear that LDV has not simply built another double-cab to compete in an already crowded market. Instead, the Chinese manufacturer has produced a technologically advanced, premium lifestyle bakkie that has the size, refinement and road presence to challenge far more established rivals.

Retailing at just over N$800 000, the Terron 9 enters the premium segment with extreme confidence. Measuring at an imposing 5.5 metres in length and boasting a 3.3-metre wheelbase, this is a seriously large vehicle. Despite its considerable dimensions, the Terron 9 never feels cumbersome. Instead, it inspires confidence, giving the driver a reassuring sense that virtually anything the road throws at it can be handled with ease.
